I started painting when I was wee little though you'd have to ask my mom when I started, because I honestly don't know. Is it a Maybelline thing, "I was born with it?" I like to think that I started painting with my toothbrush and toothpaste as I am sure the mess my kids make in their bathroom is hereditary evidence of early artistic genius.
Painting became my go-to hobby around Grade 9 of high school. Tucked away in my bedroom with a wall to lean a canvas on, some cheap dollar store paints and brushes, I discovered a different sense of calm as I painted. It didn't matter what I painted or if I thought it was good or not - just the act of smushing paint on a canvas made me feel better. And it still does today.
I've dabbled in different mediums: watercolor, oil, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, graphic art - but I've always been pulled back to my favorite of them all: acrylic. I've been told that Oils are the Rolls-Royce of painting, but I'd prefer a minivan to that anyway. So acrylic it is. (Plus, I tried oils, I really did and it gave me grey hair, headaches and the lack of drying made my head spin).
I prefer to paint landscapes and I especially love painting Hudson Bay Mountain here in Smithers, BC, Canada. It's the most beautiful mountain in the world (take that, Matterhorn) - and I know it's all nostalgia because I grew up here and it reminds me of home. But that's enough for me. Otherwise I enjoy other mountains, lakes, rivers, trees, anything that is in God's beautiful creation.

God is the artist; I’m just an apprentice.
